From Ancient Greek Î�λλην (Hellen) "Greek", "luminary, bright", from prefix Îλ- (el) "sun, bright, shiny". (See helios "sun", electron "amber", etc.). In Greek mythology Î�λλην, whom the Î�λληνεÏ� (Hellenes) "Greeks" were named after,
was the son of �ε�καλί�ν (Deucalion) and Π���α (Pyrra).
