From Hindustani हिन�द�स�तान� / ur-Arab|��د�ستا�� (hindust�nī) < Persian fa-Arab|��د (hend Hindu) + Persian fa-Arab|ستا� (st�n land) + adjective suffix fa-Arab|� (ī) resulting in (hendust�nī = land of the Hindus) < hend is derived from Sanskrit सिन�ध� (sindhu), Sanskrit name for the Indus River.
