Usage notes
This way of spelling is based on transliteration of the Russian spelling of Chisinau. In Moldovan, which is the national language of Moldova and practically the same as Romanian, the name is spelled as Chi�in�u. This is often simplified in English texts to the form Chisinau, which may be regarded as an "official" way of spelling the name in English on the grounds that it is used e.g. by the US government.
