From L. ab (�away from�) and Greek scopos "a target for shooting at." Term first described by Dr. R. J. Mole in 1953 in the British Journal of Radiology, "Whole body irradiation- radiobiology or medicine?" . Br. J. Radiol., 26: 234-241, 1953.
