From F. acrobate, from Ancient Greek ακÏ�οβάÏ�ηÏ� (akrobates) "walking on tiptoe, climbing aloft", from ακÏ�οβαÏ�ÎÏ� (akrobateo) "to walk on tiptoe", from άκÏ�ον (akron) "highest or farthest point, mountain top, peak" + βαÏ�ήÏ� (bates) "one that treads or covers", an inflection of βαίνÏ� (baino) "to walk, to step".
