Etymology
Old English anger, angre (affliction, anger) < Icelandic angr (affliction, sorrow); akin to Danish anger (regret), Swedish anger (regret), Old English ange (oppressed, sad), Latin angor (a strangling, anguish), angere (to strangle), Greek άγ (to strangle), Sanskrit amhas (pain), and to (anguish, anxious, quinsy), and perhaps awe (ugly). The word seems to have originally meant "to choke", "squeeze".
