From OE. bedd, from proto|Germanic|badjan|dug sleeping-place, from proto|Indo-European|bhedh-|dig. Cognate with Dutch #Dutch|bed, German Bett; and (from Indo-European) with Greek βοθ��ο� �pit�, Latin fossa �ditch�, Latvian bedre �hole�, Welsh bedd#Welsh|bedd, Breton bez �grave�; and probably also Russian бода��.
