Etymology
ME. cunte < OE. *cunte (probably present though not attested) < West Germanic *kunte < Ger. *kunton. Cognate with Frisian kunte, dialectal Swedish kunta, dialectal Danish kunte, Dutch kont �arse�. A relationship to Latin cunnus has not been conclusively shown.
