OE. fisc < Ger. *fiskaz < IE. *peisk-, pisk-. Cognate with Dutch visch, German Fisch, Swedish fisk. The Indo-European root is also the source of Latin piscis, Russian пи�ка��, Irish iasc, Greek ichthys.
