2.Inflected form of intentionally incorrect and accepted usage of fun as an adjective turned superlative. Superlatives have many exceptions and this is certainly one of them and an actual word which is accepted widely, even in ESL.
Usage notes
Funnest is a regular superlative of the adjective fun. However, the use of fun as an adjective is itself still often seen as informal<ref>American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th edition, 2000. (web version) 1</ref> or casual<ref>Edith Hope Fine, Judith Pinkerton Josephson, More Nitty-Gritty Grammar, 2001. 2</ref> and to be avoided in formal writing, and this would apply equally to the superlative form. Merriam-Webster, however, gives fun as an adjective without comment, and states that funner and funnest are �sometimes� used<ref>3</ref>. Because of the remaining stigma, most fun may be preferred in formal writing.
Funnest is allowed in structure as subj. + verb + the funnest +(optional but most used) noun object. It is seen in formal print and speech for decades, having turned from the actual slang fun + noun, an extremely long time ago. Fun is actually as an adject inflected. The English language changes constantly and rule of logic dictaded long ago that it could be used in the superlative as in most fun and indeed funnest. Funner, funning and funned have also come into use and acceptable but not in formality.
