Medieval Latin geldum, Old English gield, "payment", "tribute". Confer Dutch #Dutch|geld, "money", German Geld, "money", Old Norse/Danish Tongue giald, "payment", Gothic gild, "tribute". Also confer "yield". Geld is also written gelt, or gild, and as such found in "Danegelt", and "wergild".
