OE. (Northumbrian) cetel, from w:West Germanic language|West Germanic *katil, probably from L. catillus, diminutive of cantinus|cantīnus �food-vessel�. Cognate with Dutch ketel, German Ke�el, Frisian tsjettel (English did not follow the Ingvaeonic nasal spirant law in this occasion)
