Etymology
OE. cyssan, from Ger. *kussja-, from IE. *kus- (probably imitative). Cognates include Dutch kussen, German küssen, Swedish kyssa. However, the oldest attested record for the word, is the Ancient Greek κÏÏÏÏ (kysso) poet. form of κÏÏÏ (κÏÏο) âto kissâ (Homer, Odyssey, 16.15: kusse de min kephalen... âhe kissed his foreheadâ; Aristophanes, Clouds, 56.81: kuson me... âkiss me...â, etc.), from κÏνÎÏ (kyneo) "to kiss".
