- 1844 Any body of knowledge purported to be scientific or supported by science but which fails to comply with the scientific method.
Usage notes
This term may be used by people who have no underlying familiarity with the subject under consideration, and thus may be seen as pejorative. Its use should be avoided in the absence of relevant information. Also, philosophers of science have been able to reach consensus on a definition of pseudoscience.
