Etymology
From SH. rakija < possibly from Arabic ARchar|عر� ('araq) meaning sweat or wine (as the rakija or wine vapor drops are similar to drops of sweat). Exact etymology is hard to pinpoint as this word (or a variant of it) is found throughout the Balkans, the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
