English
Noun
virii p
- irregular plural of|virus
- computing A superset of computer software composed of computer virus|viruses, trojan|trojans, and worms.
Usage notes
The plural virii, though common, is generally considered to be incorrect, and based on a misunderstanding of Latin. There is no plural for the Latin word virus; using the native English pluralisation rules, to yield viruses, would arguably then be most correct.
The term virii in the computing sense is often used by individuals who collect, trade, and produce these kinds of software.
