Etymology
from wienerwurst (1904; nowadays the German form is "Wiener Würstchen"), G. (Wien + -er; wiener "of Vienna" + wurst "sausage"), because the sausages were originally made in Vienna, Austria. However, in Vienna this type of sausage is called a "frankfurter".
