From the w:Yiddish language|Yiddish (yarmlke), from the w:Polish language|Polish jarmu�ka and the w:Ukrainian language|Ukrainian (yarmulka), skullcap. This is probably from the w:Turkish language|Turkish (ya�murluk), that is rainwear. This term entered English in 1903.
