Etymology: The origin and meaning of the name "Amuzgo" is unclear, and there are several theories. It seems likely that the name comes from one of the many Nahuatl languages (w:Uto-Aztecan languages, Uto-Aztecan language family): (1) One claim says that it comes from (Nahu.) (term, amoxco, lang=nah, , Place of Books); (2) another is that it began as (term, amuchco, , where there is tin, lang=nah), composed of (term, amuchitl, , tin, lang=nah) and (term, -co, , in, at, lang=nah); (3) a third idea is that it comes from (Nahu.) (term, amochitl, , where there is copper, lang=nah).
