Definitions | dog-paddle |
| noun
- a swimming stroke wherein the hands move in small vertical circles just below the surface of the water at about the level of the swimmer's sternum. It is an instinctive stroke used by beginning swimmers in an attempt to 'climb' out of the water. There is not usually any coí¶rdinated foot motion, but some swimmers may make walking movements sporadically.
The stroke is so-named due to its resemblance to the way dogs swim using their front paws constantly and giving occasional kicks with their hind legs.
verb
- to swim using the dog paddle stroke.
