Etymology: An anon wrote: I've been told that this term orginated in the Victorian Goldfields during the goldrush of the 1850'sMany Chinese immigrated to Victoria during the goldrush years.Dinkum derives from a chinese slang phrase meaning "is it real gold" whichwas adopted by the white anglo-saxon prospectors....the plausibility of this is bruised by 'real gold' not having much to do with the meaning of dinkum, which is 'work'-->
