- a public house where beverages, primarily alcoholic but also non-alcoholic may be bought and drunk either standing up or sitting down at tables (some of which may be in a garden), during fixed business hours. Many pubs also serve food, some specialising in high quality food (an example of which is sometimes known as gastropub). There may also be entertainment of various forms.
